Pastor Doyle L. Hart, Founder and Senior Pastor of the Academy Cathedral in Inglewood, passed away on May 9 at 94.
Pastor Hart had a rich legacy before coming to Inglewood in 1975. He was ordained as a young man in 1939 and went into full time ministry. He began preaching the Gospel and ministering to the spiritual needs of the people in Dallas, TX. For many years Pastor Hart travelled as an evangelist with his musical team, known as the Musical Harts, igniting and touching the souls of thousands with a message of faith, redemption, hope, forgiveness and God’s love.
In 1965, Pastor Hart settled in California, where he founded Calvary Temple on Broadway and Manchester in Los Angeles. Under Pastor Hart's leadership, Calvary Temple experienced phenomenal growth, and in 1975 the church relocated to its new home, Academy Cathedral, in Inglewood, a beautiful large historical theater and landmark in the movie industry with a seating capacity of over one thousand.
Pastor Hart’s genuine love for people continues to be expressed through the many programs of assistance available to children, senior citizens and the less fortunate, providing food for the hungry, clothes for the needy, and shelter for the homeless.
“The City of Inglewood has lost a man who provided a strong spiritual and moral compass for thousands. He will be dearly missed,” said Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, Jr.
Pastor Hart’s home going services are scheduled for May 19, 2016 at noon, at the Academy Cathedral, 3141 West Manchester Blvd., Inglewood CA. The services will be live streamed.
