It has become a Thanksgiving tradition in Inglewood. Rapper and actor Snoop Dogg made his annual appearance at the Forum on Monday to help Mayor James Butts, other city officials and volunteers hand out turkeys and other food items to families in need.
Thousands received frozen turkeys and everything else needed to make their Thanksgiving dinners festive and joyous. This is Snoop’s third time participating at the Forum event.
A native of Long Beach, Snoop said he loves to give back to the community.
"To be able to come back and give back when you blessed, to put smiles on people's faces, to be able to feed people…I love to help because I was given opportunity," he said. "I'm the gift that keeps on giving."
Snoop donated most of the money for foos, but local businesses also helped provide about 3,000 turkeys and side dish items during the giveaway.
Grateful residents in Inglewood and some outside the community waited in line for hours for a chance to get their dinner boxes, take selfies with Snoop and get an autograph or two. Some said if it were not for the giveaway, they might not have been able to put food on the table this year.
“This is what it's all about, being able to give back to people who may have not had nothing to eat for Thanksgiving, but we're fortunate enough, we're blessed enough to give back," Snoop said. "So every year we look forward to doing it."
“We love you Snoop,” a female fan said as she posed for a selfie with the rapper.
