A Message from County Administrator Dr. Erika Torres

Dear Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) Staff, Students, Families and Community:     In our continued commitment to serving our community and providing current information, we have some important updates in this week’s message.    School Reopening Updates   Virtual Parent Town Hall    On Thursday, August 5, 2021, our District hosted a Virtual Parent Town Hall Meeting to provide an update regarding the reopening of schools for the start of school on August 23, 2021. Our District Leadership Team shared important information regarding our reopening preparation and plans, in-person learning, health and safety protocols, curriculum and instruction, attendance, meal distribution, before and after school care, social emotional support, testing and vaccinations. We will also be sharing an update regarding our reopening of schools during our Board Meeting on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. You may access the virtual Board Meeting through our Live Board Meetings page on our IUSD website.     Independent Study Program   As shared in the Virtual Parent Town Hall, the State adopted legislation (AB130) requires all public school districts in California to offer an Independent Study program. The Independent Study program is NOT the same as the “Distance Learning” option that was offered last school year. Please submit the following Interest Survey by August 11th, only if you wish to begin the school year in the Independent Study program. This will allow the District to properly plan and coordinate a viable Independent Study program for your child. If you have any questions regarding the Independent Study program, please email independentstudy@inglewoodusd.com
Alternate Income Form  IUSD is participating in the Seamless Summer Meal Option during the 2021-2022 school year and this program provides students with breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks at no additional cost to families. In order to continue receiving additional District funding for this special program, families are required to complete the “Alternate Income Form”. The income form will not only provide free meals, it may also assist with after school academic and enrichment programs, state and federal funding for school budgets, resources for classrooms and much more! In addition, our district is having a competition between elementary and secondary schools where the two winning schools will have the In-N-Out truck for lunch. Be sure to submit your Alternate Income Form to help support your school before the deadline on September 15th. Please click here to complete the form.      IUSD Hosts COVID- 19 Vaccination Clinics   In our commitment to prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff, families and community, IUSD is hosting a vaccination event on August 11, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. La Tijera K-8 Academy of Excellence. Sony Animation Studios   The Break, Reinvent, Impact and Change (BRIC) Foundation, where their mission is to help increase diversity within the entertainment, media and technology industry, partnered with our District, Inglewood Teachers Association (ITA) and the Instructional Leadership Corps over the summer to provide an amazing opportunity to high school students interested in animation. Participating students completed the program on July 29, 2021, by pitching their mock animation series to BRIC and Sony Animation representatives. Students were asked to create an animated series which included a plot, characters, location, and explored the various aspects of what it takes to create their own series. Some students described the program as a place that gave them the confidence to write their own thoughts and create their own stories. In addition, gain a greater sense of understanding and appreciation for the development of an animated series. Our District would like to commend all of our incredible students for completing this program and expanding their knowledge in industries that may potentially lead to lifelong careers.
