Enhances Emergency Room Experience

By Francis Taylor, Executive Editor

GetCareNow, a new program offered by Centinela Hospital Medical Center, is offering members of the community an enhanced emergency room experience, furthering its mission to provide the very best care to communities where and when they need it.
The Centinela Hospital Emergency Department now offers GetCareNow, which is technology that allows patients to reserve an appointment via the hospital’s main webpage to be seen in the Emergency Room, ER. Patients fill out a brief, secure form, and no username or password is required. The tool can notify the patient if there is a change that may extend the wait time, and a notification can even be sent if there has been a reduction in surge to encourage an earlier arrival time. Importantly, GetCareNow is intended only for non-life or limb-threatening emergencies. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.
The easy-to-use tool provides added convenience for those with non-life-threatening emergent needs. While appointments cannot be explicitly guaranteed due to the variable nature of an emergency department, the tool still allows patients insight into current wait times and increases communication through the notification features.
“Our priority is to ensure patients receive high-quality, safe care where and when they need it,” said Mohammad A. Naser, CEO of Centinela Hospital Medical Center. “I am thrilled to bring a resource to our region that enhances communication, improves transparency, and gives our clinical team additional insight along critical stages of the prehospital care continuum.”
GetCareNow is one of many exciting features on the newly designed Centinela Hospital website. The updated website offers a modernized presence and supports the digital patient journey across all care settings. With “Action Buttons” featured on every page, patients can easily find a doctor, schedule appointments, contact us, and get directions. In addition, there are customized menus for patients, providers, job seekers, and visitors. Platform capabilities include a 24/7 chatbot, patient prep instructions, patient e-registration, secure messaging, post-visit virtual check-ins, and patient feedback and reviews. Collectively, these serve to improve communication, care coordination, and the experience for patients, physicians, and staff.
Additionally, Centinela Hospital recently earned accreditation as a Geriatric Emergency
Department by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). This accreditation recognizes that Centinela Hospital is focused on the highest standards of emergency care for older adults. The Centinela Emergency Department offers seniors a more comfortable physical environment and clinical best practices that address their unique needs. Centinela Hospital is one of the highest rated hospitals for clinical excellence in the Los Angeles region. The hospital recently received an “A” rating in hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group.
This achievement marks the 10th straight ‘A’ that Centinela Hospital has earned since 2018.
Centinela Hospital was also recognized on the 2022 Fortune/Merative Top 100 Hospitals® list for the sixth time as one of the top-performing community hospitals in the nation. Earlier this year, Centinela Hospital was recognized by Healthgrades as a 2023 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient. This distinction places Centinela Hospital among the top five percent of all short-term acute care hospitals as evaluated by Healthgrades. This is the ninth year that Centinela Hospital has achieved this prestigious recognition.
