A man accused of deliberately driving an SUV into a CarMax dealership in Inglewood has been charged with attempted murder and multiple other felonies after the weekend incident left several people injured.
Andrew Jesus Arroyo, 25, now faces nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of hit-and-run causing injury, and one count of felony vandalism, according to court records.
Inglewood Today first shared video footage of the incident on social media, showing an SUV backing into the dealership’s showroom as employees scramble to get out of the way. The vehicle then maneuvers through the building, smashing furniture and equipment, before exiting through another side of the business.
Victims and Injuries
According to Luis Garcia of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, eight people were injured, with two sustaining critical injuries and one individual reportedly suffering paralysis and a coma due to a brain injury.
CarMax confirmed that one employee was taken to the hospital but later released. Several customers were also hurt, though their current conditions have not been publicly updated.
New Details on the Incident Emerge
Despite initial speculation that Arroyo’s actions may have been tied to an appraisal dispute, CarMax stated that there was no indication he was upset about an offer. Employees on-site reported that his behavior became erratic suddenly, but they did not link it to any specific transaction.
A company spokesperson described the event as a shocking and devastating act and thanked the Inglewood community for its support in the aftermath.
Where is Arroyo Now?
Arroyo was arrested on Saturday and is currently being held without bond in a Los Angeles County correctional facility. Prosecutors initially recommended a $1.3 million bail, but court records show he remains in custody.
He was arraigned on Tuesday, and his next court hearing is scheduled for March 27. At this time, no defense attorney has been listed in county records.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities reviewing evidence to determine Arroyo’s motive and state of mind at the time of the crash.
