Fight the Trump Agenda By Choosing Wisely

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Maya Mackey

Donald J. Trump has been sworn in yet again, much to the chagrin of myself and many Inglewood Today readers.  Recently, covered what his next presidency could look like for your mental health and the necessary precautions to take to ensure your survival.

Personally, I will always uplift mutual aid and socialist principles as a way of the future. However, America has shown that they are not yet ready for change. The majority voted for a felon, a racist, and alleged rapist and a malignant leader to steer the country’s ship.  For those who did not choose this, remember your power still. There are still things that cannot be taken from you, choice being one of the most fervent. You can still choose who you spend your dollars with, the content you consume, whom you “follow” on social media and how and what you you use to educate yourself.

The choice is always yours, but some considerations for a boycott include artists that have drawn a line in the sand, demonstrably showing their support for Donald Trump. Those artists are Carrie Underwood, Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Rick Ross, Rascal Flatts, Kanye West, Gavin Degraw, Jason Aldean, Souljaboy, and disco group Village People.

A list of companies, organizations and donors that are publicly listed as supporting Trump include: Elon Musk (owner of X, formerly Twitter, SpaceX and Tesla cars), Timothy Mellon, heir of Mellon Bank and Gulf Oil, Adelson Clinic for Drug Abuse Treatment & Research, British American Tobacco, Toyota, Ford, General Motors, Walmart, Amazon, Meta, Uber, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Crypto companies Kraken and Coinbase, AT&T, Intuit (yes, that Intuit that files your taxes and built Inglewood’s Intuit Dome that bills itself as a “safe and inclusive arena for all”).  These are just a few, but I’m sure more will come to light in the upcoming weeks and months.

One of the greatest lies pushed by capitalism, colonialism and oligarchy is that you have no choice. But, you can choose who you do business with. You can choose the concerts you attend.  Yes, this might require a sacrifice of instant comfort and gratification but if you want to do something, start with taking your money elsewhere. President Barack Obama once said, “Don’t boo, vote!” To that I add, “don’t boo, revolt!”
