What’s Up at Inglewood City Hall?

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

What is the plan for Inglewood’s future? Major James Butts, Jr. outlined his vision for
the next 25 years in a video shown at the April 15 Inglewood City Council Meeting. The
General Plan is usually approved, but it’s not talked about much publicly, the mayor
said. “We put a video together for the public to get more insight. The last time it was
updated was 1987.”
The video, narrated by Mayor Butts, outlines the City’s vision for affordable housing,
well-paying jobs for residents and surrounding communities, and better access to
healthcare. It was drafted with the input of over 1200 comments from residents,
stakeholders and community members across all 4 districts. You can watch the video
on the City’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoiI6FFb-S4.
Special hearings will be held on multiple dates this year to discuss housing in
Inglewood. This is an opportunity for low to moderate income residents to share their
concerns and priorities. Mark your calendar for May 6, July 12 and December 9 at 2pm.
Congratulations are in order for three City employees who were recently promoted.
Jose Cortes advanced from Assistant City Manager to Senior Assistant City Manager.
Chris Jackson, former Director of Development Services, was promoted to Assistant
City Manager. Yakema Decatur, former Housing Director, was also promoted to
Assistant City Manager. She is the first woman and African American in the City’s
history to hold the title.
Speaking affectionately about Decatur, Mayor Butts said, “Her office was literally a
closet on the ninth floor with no windows. But she knew everything about how things
went (in City Hall). She has been an amazing example of what competence will get
you. I call her Boss Lady.’’
District 4 Councilmember Dionne Faulk reminded the ladies to get their free tickets for
