Harris Joins Worshippers at Inglewood Church on Resurrection Sunday

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The saints at Inglewood’s Faithful Central Bible Church received the surprise of a lifetime this
Easter Sunday when former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris attended service. In tow with
her husband and nieces, Harris shook hands with churchgoers after the service, in a creme
ensemble–a full length blazer-trench coach over a creme satin dress, channeling the fierceness
of Olivia Pope.
She looked rejuvenated, and was all smiles, responding “you know!” to the famous “H-U”
Howard University chant. She encouraged the crowd, letting them know that despite the difficult
times many Americans are facing, we are “not defeated.”

Later that afternoon, Harris and her family attended the Farmers Market in Brentwood, waving,
speaking with, and taking photos with her supporters. Amidst complaints from (mostly white)
liberals and progressives that Kamala has “abandoned” her Democratic base since losing the
election to Donald Trump, the 92% of Black women who voted for her disagree.  They
understand her fundamental right to rest and recover from such a tragic blow. She is technically
unemployed now and to pretend that losing a job overnight doesn’t shock and grieve the system
is blasphemous, even if she is a public figure.
People give friends grace for lesser “offenses.” But Harris, who is still showing up in the middle
of her grief, gave an emboldened speech at this year’s  NAACP Image Awards.  She spoke
about the importance of continuing to fight the good fight and get into “good trouble,” a term
coined by late civil rights icon John Lewis.
No matter what is next for Harris in life and vocation, she is still a Black woman with outstanding
credentials who, deserves reprieve alongside the 92% of Black Women and the 78% of Black
men who voted for her.
Rest well.
