The City of Inglewood was recognized for its inspiring dedication to the wellbeing of the
elders in our community, as the Inglewood Senior Center was honored with the Resilient
Space Provider Award by STEAM100, a California-based nonprofit organization
focused on youth empowerment, education, and community resilience.
The award was presented during a celebratory event titled “Honoring Resilient Space
Providers”, held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Julian Dixon LA County Library in
Culver City. The event acknowledged organizations and institutions across the state that
have gone above and beyond to support vulnerable populations and foster safe,
connected environments.
Representing the City of Inglewood at the event were Mayor James T. Butts, who
proudly accepted the award on behalf of the City, Thomas Uwal, Director of Parks,
Recreation and Community Services, and Human Services Superintendent Bharat
Devlia, who joined in honoring the staff whose hard work and compassion have shaped
the Senior Center into a safe space that takes great care of the seniors of Inglewood.
STEAM100’s decision to honor the Senior Center reflects a broader appreciation for the
City’s proactive efforts to serve senior residents with dignity, warmth, and consistent
care, especially during the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, when social connection
and safety were of the utmost importance.
Thomas Uwal, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services for the City of
Inglewood, expressed deep gratitude in response to the recognition. “This award is a
testament to the unwavering dedication, compassion, and professionalism of the
incredible staff at the Inglewood Senior Center. Our team of public servants works
tirelessly to ensure that our senior residents receive the support, care, and connection
they deserve. They will be overjoyed to receive this recognition and accept it with
heartfelt gratitude.”
