Inglewood High School football coach Mil’Von James has had more than a year to rid his team of the bitter 2019 CIF semifinal 41-40 playoff defeat at the hands of Esperanza that likely coast the Sentinel an elusive CIF championship.
Inglewood leading by seven with 20 seconds to play, Esperanza’s wide receiver Roshawn Lacy scored a controversial five-yard touchdown on a reverse play with 14 seconds to play and running back Walter Gooding converted the two-point conversion to help Esperanza (9-4) pull off a stunning upset 42-41 in the CIF Division 13 Southern Section semifinals at Yorba Linda High.
That was then and this is now as Inglewood and most other area schools have waited with abated breath for a season than annually begins in the fall starts a restricted fan less campaign in the spring.
James has tempered his expectations for 2021 telling Inglewood Today, “It’s been difficult getting them to stay focused during these times.”
Nonetheless, Inglewood will play its season opener on March 25th at Coleman Field in Inglewood against Lawndale Leuzinger at 7p.m.
Inglewood hands the signal calling reigns over to serra transfer Justyn Martin (Cal commit) and also returns All-Area wide receiver Orion Peters (Washington State) and three-year varsity lineman Devin Hancox.
