Traffic Accident in Inglewood

Ten people were injured late Saturday night, June 14th,
when a vehicle plowed into a crowd of pedestrians near
the intersection of South Prairie Avenue and West Century
Boulevard, just outside the Hollycrest Hotel and adjacent
to the Intuit Dome and SoFi Stadium.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m., shortly after the
conclusion of a CONCACAF Gold Cup match between
Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Attendees were
dispersing from the venue when a vehicle veered into a
group of pedestrians walking along Century Boulevard.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly and transported the
injured to local hospitals. Authorities reported that two
individuals, including a 14-year-old, sustained critical
injuries at the scene. The remaining victims suffered
varying levels of trauma, described in multiple accounts as
mostly minor. By Sunday morning, police stated that all
individuals, including the two critically injured, were in
stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle was apprehended at the scene
and later hospitalized. Initial statements provided to law
enforcement indicated the driver claimed to have fallen
asleep at the wheel. The identity of the driver has not been
made public, and the incident remains under active

investigation by Inglewood police and regional traffic
safety authorities.

Mayor James Butts acknowledged the gravity of the
situation and commended the first responders for their
prompt action. Law enforcement temporarily cordoned off
the area for investigation, creating brief traffic disruptions
around the stadium complex, which is always busy
following large-scale sporting events.

The collision has raised concerns among community
members and stadium-goers about pedestrian safety
around Inglewood’s high-traffic entertainment corridor.
With the Intuit Dome and the area hosting frequent events
at SoFi Stadium, public safety officials are likely to review
crowd control and traffic measures near key intersections,
particularly those with high pedestrian volume post-event.

After 3 days, officials have not confirmed whether drugs,
alcohol, or other factors may have contributed to the
crash. No formal charges had been announced as of
Tuesday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing.
