A Message from County Administrator Dr. Erika Torres

Dear Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) Staff, Students, Families and Community:

In our continued commitment to serving our community and providing current information, we have some important updates in this week’s message. Please be advised that our newsletter will be distributed twice a month during the summer break. Our regular, weekly distribution will resume in August 2021.

Fall School Reopening

Our school reopening will begin on August 23, 2021, with all students returning to in-person instruction. We are excited to welcome students back to our schools for in-person instruction and will be sharing details about an independent studies option next week. During the pandemic, we ensured families that we would provide updates regarding health and safety protocols, instructional support and resources, and the District’s initiatives. Our school reopening employs the most current safety protocol guidelines. This includes following the advice of leading experts: the LA County Department of Public Health’s “Reopening Protocols of K-12 Schools,” state health agencies, and the Centers for Disease Control. We believe EVERY student, teacher and staff member deserves to learn and work in a SAFE, healthy, and inviting space. That is why we continue to make safety a top priority at IUSD. To learn more about the steps we are taking to ensure the health and safety of students, staff and families, please click here to access the IUSD Health and Safety Plan.

1DayLA School Beautification Event

1DayLA, a movement that has united communities across Southern California through philanthropy, has selected Woodworth-Monroe TK-8 and Morningside High School for a beautification project. The beautification project will consist of planting and removing plants, shrubs and decorating with mulch or bark at each location. The work will be conducted by volunteers, and we are asking students, parents and families who would like to be a part of this amazing event to arrive at Woodworth-Monroe between 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or Morningside High School from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on July 24, 2021. For those who register and pay a $29.00 registration fee, 1DayLA is giving all registered volunteers a ticket to attend a SoFi Concert with special guest appearances from Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper, Tori Kelly and more! To register as a volunteer, please click here. To view the event flyer, including concert details, please click here.

School Closure/Consolidation Committee Selection

The Inglewood Unified School District (“District”) is seeking qualified, interested individuals to serve on the District’s School Closure/Consolidation Committee (“Committee”). Leading into the 2022-2023 school year, the District will engage in extensive short-and long-term facilities planning for its programs and school sites. Through this process, school sites and facilities that are substantially under-enrolled or underutilized will be considered for closure or repurposing to improve the District’s fiscal solvency. The District’s educational programs will benefit from this as resources are redirected to improve and grow those programs. The role of the Committee is to provide input and recommendations to the County Administrator and District regarding a plan to close/consolidate schools.

If you wish to serve on this important committee, please review the Committee Bylaws for more information about the Committee’s role and responsibilities. To apply for the School Closure/Consolidation Committee, click here to complete the application. In submitting the application, you certify that you have read, understand and agree to follow the Bylaws. Completed applications should be submitted by 4:00 PM on Friday, July 30, 2021

The process is expected to take under 1 hour, but could take up to 2.5 hours depending on the child’s need for an eye exam, prescription glasses fitting and more. Please note that face masks are required, bags/backpacks will not be permitted and only water will be allowed on the field. To reserve your spot at the clinic, please click here.
