Centinela Hospital Medical Center today announced that it has been named one of America’s 100 Great Community Hospitals in 2019, according to a study released by Becker’s Hospital Review. With its inclusion for the fifth consecutive year, Centinela Hospital is one of two Los Angeles-based hospitals and one of six California hospitals to make the list.
“Centinela Hospital is honored to be recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review for the fifth
year in a row as one of the top 100 Great Community Hospitals nationally,” said Mohammad A.
Naser, Chief Operating Officer and interim Chief Executive Officer, Centinela Hospital Medical
Center. “When we say ‘We Care’ it’s backed up by a hard-working team of physicians, nurses
and staff who dedicate themselves to our mission of providing exceptional patient care every
day. We are proud of this effort as a reflection of our dedication to serving Inglewood and the
surrounding LAX-based communities.”
The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on
rankings and awards from organizations, including IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals,
iVantage Health Analytics and The Chartis Center for Rural Health’s Top 100 Rural &
Community Hospitals, the National Rural Health Association, Healthgrades, CareChex ratings,
the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grades,
star ratings from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), among other considerations.
Becker’s has published a version of this list annually since 2011. For the purposes of this
list, Becker’s defines a ‘community hospital’ as one with fewer than 550 beds. Hospitals
included on the Becker’s list are recognized for quality, patient satisfaction and overall
excellence and play a key role in their communities as the centerpiece for health care in many
occasions. For a complete listing of the hospitals included on Becker’s 100 Great Community
Hospitals, visit https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/100-great-community-hospitals-
2019.html.
Centinela Hospital’s dedication to the community it serves is evident by its $100 million
capital expansion and renovation plans. In May 2016, Centinela completed a $55 million seismic
retrofit project that included the unveiling of a new hospital front entrance, lobby, admitting
department, laboratory, gift shop, and administration offices. In March 2017, it opened its newly
expanded emergency room that includes 10,000 square feet of additional space to increase the
number of emergency room beds to 52. In December 2018, a new maternal services and labor &
delivery unit opened that includes six large, family-centered care birthing suites. Further
remodeling and expansion projects under construction include: additional emergency department
upgrades, radiology, hybrid cath lab, and pharmacy facilities.
