Inglewood-More than 10,000 pre-packed meals were provided to families in Inglewood and the surrounding communities during the “Wondalunch” in Inglewood event that was hosted by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Janelle Monae, Jidenna, Angela Rye, Wondaland, and Inglewood Unified School District Board President Dr. D’Artagnan Scorza on Friday, May 29.

“Wondalunch” in Inglewood was supported by a strong coalition of community partners including KJLH Radio, Project Isaiah, the Billups Foundation, and the Social Justice Learning Institute, as well as the ministers of many local churches, including Bishop Kenneth Ulmer (Faithful Central Bible Church); Rev. Shane Scott (Macedonia Baptist Church); Rev. Dr. James Arthur Rumph (Grant AME Church); Rev. Jewett L. Walker, Jr. (Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church); and Pastor Geremy Dixon (City of Hope).

As a result, thousands of local families who were in need of food assistance had the opportunity to receive free meals through contact-free, drive-and-go service at Crozier Middle School or through deliveries made by volunteers – including Congresswoman Waters –  to Inglewood seniors, the residents of Avalon Gardens Housing Development, the My Friends House Foundation, the LA Mission, Faithful Central Bible Church, and the Social Justice Learning Institute.

“‘Wondalunch’ was a tremendous success,” said Congresswoman Waters. “I am so very pleased and grateful that some of the most prominent and popular millennial entertainers and leaders of our time joined with activists, ministers, non-profit organizations, educators, and volunteers who dedicated their time and resources to ensuring that we could provide meals to thousands of families in our community. This event demonstrates exactly what ‘community’ is all about. It’s about giving back and being willing to assist your neighbors who may be struggling and are in need of assistance. I speak for all of Inglewood and the Greater Los Angeles community in expressing my profound gratitude to all who supported this initiative.”
